Platte County continued to expectedly stack wins in a favorable portion of the schedule and now hopes to stay on track during a pair of nonconference tests this week. The Pirates’ dominant 51-22 triumph over William Chrisman on Thursday in Independence made them unbeaten in their past four — a season-best streak for a team with well-earned expectations for this campaign.
All four wins have come in Suburban Conference White Division play.
William Chrisman hit four 3-pointers in an anomalous first quarter and then scored just one more point the rest of the first half. Platte County went into halftime up 35-13 and cruised from there behind a game-high 16 points for junior forward Rylee Carr and 14 more from senior center Addy Schlake.
Both players also finished with five rebounds each.
Platte County hit only three 3-pointers — one each for junior guard Addie Ayers, sophomore reserve forward Amani Harlin and sophomore backup point guard Kinleigh Howren. However, the Pirates totaled 16 steals, including six for Carr, to fuel easy offense while limiting William Chrisman to just 10 points in the final three quarters after finishing the first down just 16-12.
Harlin finished with seven points and seven rebounds, while Howren and Ayers scored five apiece for Platte County, which improved to 5-1 in conference play.
Platte County senior point guard Haley Barlow added a game-high six assists to her two points, while senior forward Haley Schank continued her all-around play in the starting five with two points, four rebounds and three steals. The Pirates were without their leading scorer with senior guard Lauren Stone for a second straight game due to illness. She averages 14.2 points per contest and had been in double figures in five straight going into the week.
Now at 9-4 overall, Platte County hosts Smithville (10-5) on Monday in an important matchup for Class 5 District 8 seeding and travels to Park Hill (10-6) on Thursday. The Pirates had not won more than two in a row before the most recent stretch.
Platte County won 20 games last year in coach Eric Mitchell’s second season after totaling 18 and reaching the Class 5 District 8 championship game in 2022-23. The Pirates increased the difficulty of nonconference scheduling and were 5-4 after a loss to Grain Valley before reeling off the four recent victories.
Platte County 57, Raytown 32
Ayers matched her career-high with 14 points, including four 3s, in Tuesday’s conference win on the road at Raytown in the first game without Stone.
Platte County put up balanced offense with Schlake posting a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Barlow scored in double-figures for the second time this season, also with 10, matching the number she posted in a December win over Raymore-Peculiar. Ayers’ previous game with 14 points came in a loss to Oak Park when she also hit four 3-pointers.
Carr added nine points to go with four rebounds and six of Platte County’s 18 steals, while Schank finished with seven points and a team-high six assists. Harlin led the reserves with five points and four rebounds and continued to add a spark since coming back from injury in the 2025 portion of the schedule.
Howren rounded out Platte County’s scorers with two points. Barlow and Ayers also posted four assists each.
