Platte County advanced all six singles player to the championship side of the brackets Friday morning in what ended up a very positive but heat-shortened home tournament.

Libery North captured the team title in the Platte County Invitational with 19 points. The Eagles produced four of the individual singles champions but still ended up with a slim margin of victory.
Platte County senior Macy Doll (No. 5) and junior Katelyn Newberry (No. 4) also won individual titles. With doubles limited to just one match due to the increasingly high temperatures, the Pirates also swept those and totaled 17 points.
In addition to the titles, Platte County senior Ellie Kaser (No. 1) and juniors Macie Keith (No. 2) and Jayne Muir (No. 6) were all runnersup to Liberty North players. The Pirates also flexed depth with sophomore Clare Hayter going 2-1 and placing third at No. 3, while senior Addison Fleming helped fill out the No. 6 bracket and finished third but did not score team points.
Platte County’s doubles teams of Kaser/Keith (No. 1), Hayter/Doll (No. 2) and Newberry/Muir also won matches.
Only the No. 1 brackets were seeded, and Kaser entered as a No. 2 and lost to Liberty North’s Olivia Escobar in the title match for a second straight year. Platte County’s No. 1 doubles team ended up with the No. 3 spot in that bracket but did not have the chance to play that out due to the heat. The tournament awards one point for every win, and the Pirates went 3-0 in two singles flights and 2-1 in the other 3 with Hayter bouncing back from a semifinal loss to the eventual champion to also close with a win.
Platte County now faces an extremely important week of action in duals. The Pirates have a 5-2 record overall and play at Raymore-Peculiar on Tuesday before hosting Grain Valley on Thursday in a matchup likely to determine the Suburban Conference White Division championship.
Last season, Platte County won 5-4 a year ago over Grain Valley but has only won two of eight matchups all-time between the two schools.
