Platte County announced Jacob Kimble as the next head coach for the women’s basketball program Monday morning, naming him as a successor to Eric Mitchell.
Kimble most recently served as Central (St. Joseph) head boys basketball coach, accruing a 67-111 record and competing in one of the toughest conference divisions in the state. He spent 20 years at his alma mater, first as a volunteer assistant and progressing all the way to the top position on staff.
Mitchell’s career record at Platte County finished at 69-36 with a 34-12 mark in Suburban Conference White Division play. The Pirates went 13-13 in 2025-26 — the last of four seasons for Mitchell, who announced his intention to retire earlier in the school year.
Platte County posted winning records in each of Mitchell’s first three seasons and reached the Class 5 District 8 title game in both 2023 and 2025 but a playoff drought extending to 2009 remains active. The Pirates went 21-5 in 2024 and earned a share of the White Division title, the first 20-win season and conference championship for the program since 2010.
In 2009, Platte County won the Class 4 state championship.
Platte County graduates three seniors off of this year’s roster, including the top two scorers — Rylee Carr (14.7 ppg) and Addie Ayers (10.0 peg). The Pirates could junior Macy Doll; sophomores Millie Parker, Madeline Arthurs, Rose Forbes and Brooklyn Harris along with freshmen Clare Stephens, Emma Schank and Eva Bane.
Parker, Doll, Arthurs, Stephens and Schank all spent significant time in Platte County’s starting lineup this past season.
