Platte County senior Bryton Bertram continued a recent run of strong play at the net, posting a match-high 10 kills in Monday’s Suburban Conference White Division sweep of Raytown at Pirate Fieldhouse. The Pirates rolled to a 25-11, 25-18, 25-13 victory.

Combined with a loss to Lee’s Summit North two nights later, Platte County’s inaugural season maintained a trend of ups and downs with a current record of 10-7-1.
Platte County dominated despite 11 attack errors against Raytown with junior Preston Cavan serving up a career-best nine aces. The Pirates put up 14 total with junior standout Joshua Echeverry adding two plus four kills while seniors William Babcock and Bertram plus freshman setter Cooper Miles all finished with one each.
Miles also led Platte County with 14 assists. Cavan also broke back out on defense with a team-high 16 digs, while Echeverry added eight.
Lee’s Summit North snapped another two-game win streak for Platte County, which dropped the Wednesday nonconference dual but stayed competitive. The Broncos swept the three sets 25-21, 25-17, 25-21.
Platte County tightened rotations against a strong opponent with Echeverry and Bertram totaling six kills apiece. The Pirates also had just two total aces — one each for Babcock and Miles.
Lee’s Summit North commanded more attention at the net, and Platte County junior Drake White totaled four blocks, three of them solo. Cavan led the Pirates in digs with 11.
Platte County has yet to win more than two in a row since a string of three straight to start the season in the Hy-Vee Arena Tournament. The Pirates play on the road this week in rematches with a pair of opponents they’ve already beaten this season: Raytown (Monday) and Kearney (Wednesday).
